Clik here to view.fanatix, a London-based social network dedicated entirely to sports, announced today the U.S. launch of its app after securing an additional $1 million in funding from (unnamed) angel investors.
The free app, which is only available as an iOS-version right now, aims to deliver an all-encompassing social platform to American sports fans. fanatix has recently surpassed the 250,000 mark in downloads and increased its daily active user base from 500 to more than 35,000.
Launched in October 2011, fanatix provides sports fans with a personalized stream of sports content – news updates, tweets, video clips, live scores and statistics – and enables easy sharing of that content in huddles (group chat for sports fans). The average fanatix user is now accessing the app 5 1/2 times a day – with the average registered user accessing the service over 10 times a day. The service has also been selected by Manchester City, ESPN, Eurosport and a range of other sports media entities to help them engage second screen sports audiences, especially during live broadcasts. With this recent funding of $1 million, fanatix has now raised more than $2 million total to date.
“The collision of social and mobile has created the opportunity for the sports industry to ‘re-imagine the back-page’ and we think that we’re starting to see that fulfilled by the fanatix suite of products,” said Will Muirhead, fanatix Founder and CEO.
